Weight Loss Goal Setting
July 6th, 2009
For many people who set objectives of losing weight, it is most probably because they come to realize that there is a problem that is imminent or is already there.
Perhaps one may be intending to get to a relationship with somebody who may be having a problem with weight. It could also be as a result of realization that there maybe an imminent health danger.
It could still be that one is feeling that there are opportunities that one is getting to miss because of the problem of weight.
In most cases people decide to set goals when it reaches a point of not turning back. In most cases, the goals are unrealistic. Many get set to lose a lot of calories within a very short duration of time. The likely case that goes with that is stress and perhaps depression if one is not able to meet them as fast as possible.
There is a great need to set objectives, but the same may not work miracles especially f they are not supplemented by a change in lifestyle. Sometimes it may require a little consumption of this or that or at times a walk for some one or two kilometers on a periodical basis.
It may also call for aggressive physical exercises like aerobics and such others. Several things must be done when setting objectives. The following may be necessary:
1. Write them down
As a way of showing the seriousness in the implementation of the weight loss program, it is necessary to write the objectives down. You will write when already very sure of why you want to lose weight, and must try to stick to the program strictly.
2. Measure your objectives periodically
A good way of knowing whether your objectives are being met or whether you are on the right track is to keep on reviewing them.
There are many ways of measuring the objectives. You can check your weight constantly to see if you are losing per your target or you may review the things that you set to do on a daily basis to know whether you are sticking to the program.
3. Be realistic
When setting objectives, you will need to be realistic.
Do not set a very high goal of losing a significant amount of fat within a very short time. It may not be a case of miracle or magic. There are a good number of programs that may promise heaven, but in reality, what they tell you may be very impractical. Set realistic short term goals.
4. Be patient
When setting your goals, it is good to realize that it may not be well within a short duration of time. You will have to be patient. You may even increase in the short run if you are using average programs but that is not suggesting that you give up. It will be also prudent to keep on reviewing your objectives where necessary. You will need to supplement whichever program you will have with change in your diet.
